How to make a Chore Wheel

How to make a Chore Wheel! ❤️

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Markers
  • Protractor
  • Compass or String
  • Eraser (just in case)
  • 1 large or 2 small pieces of poster board
  • Brass Fasteners (or whatever color you choose)

Instructions

  • Get your supplies together!
  • Draw the diameter of your circle!
  • First you’ll want to make a small dot for the center of your circle.
  •  Next, make sure the small dot for the center of your circle falls in the middle of your line, ie. my diameter was 12 inches long, so I made sure the center dot lined up with the 6 inch mark on my ruler.
  • Draw your circle!
  • You’ll need a compass or pencil & string to draw your circle.
  • If using a compass…The point of the compass should be on the center dot of your line and your pencil should line up with one end of your line. Hold the point of the compass in place and use the pencil end to draw your circle, you should end at the same place you began.
  • If using a string and pencil…Tie one end of the string to the pencil and the other end to one of the brass fasteners (see picture above). Puncture the center dot of your line with the brass fastener. Line the point of your pencil up with the one end of your line. Hold the brass fastener in place and make sure the string is tight. Use the pencil to draw your circle, you should end at the same place you began.
  • After you have drawn your 12 inch circle, repeat steps 2 and 3 with another piece of poster board and make an 8 inch circle.
  • Cut out both of your circles.
  • Draw the lines on your circles!

  • The protractor, pencil and ruler will come in handy for this step.
  • Since I have 4 people and 12 chores, I made 4 equal sections for my large circle and 12 equal sections for my smaller circle.
  • For the 12 inch circle…I lined up the center dot of my diameter with the middle measurement (3 inch mark) on the straight (outer) side of my protractor.
  • Next, I made a tiny dot on my poster board circle next to the 90 degree mark.
  • Then I repeated this step by flipping my protractor and doing the exact same thing on the other half of my circle.
  • Line up the two dots with your ruler, draw another line across your circle.
  • For the 8 inch circle…I lined up my diameter with the 0 degree mark and the 180 degree mark on the curved side of my protractor.
  • Next, I made tiny dots on the poster board circle next to the 30 degree, 60 degree, 90 degree, 120 degree and 150 degree marks.
  • Then I repeated this step by flipping my protractor and doing the exact same thing on the other half of my circle.
  • Line up two dots at a time with your ruler and then draw the line, continue to do this until you have all 6 lines drawn.
  • Put the two circles together.
  • I used a 1 1/2 inch brass fastener to hold mine together.
  • Fill in the chores on the small circle & names on the large circle.
  • Now your Chore Wheel is finished & ready to hang up on the wall, door, fridge or wherever you wish.
  • Make sure you tack the big circle, so the small circle can still move.
  • You can rotate the small circle by one line (or however many) each night so your chores are different each day.

I hope y’all enjoy this idea, I know we enjoy using it! 😊
